Cannabis Industry Newcomers Win Multiple Licenses and Initiate Medical Marijuana Enterprise in Maryland

By relying on CKC’s practice-proven IP, operational expertise, and
industry experience, our client was able to secure licenses for Processing and Dispensary operations in a highly competitive market. CKC provided the following consulting services to Chesapeake Alternatives as part of this engagement:

  • Regulatory Analysis
  • Application Content Development
  • Comprehensive Expertise Across Multiple Disciplines
  • Operational Setup of Processing Lab and Training of Staff
  • Product R&D and Formulation Expertise

The Chesapeake Alternatives team, comprised of successful business and community leaders but lacking any cannabis industry experience,
made a late-stage decision to pursue licensure in Maryland’s medical cannabis program.

The client had an aggressive timeline and across-the-board needs: application management, operational bona fides and IP (in both processing and dispensary domains), financial projections supporting capital-raise efforts, and general industry perspective and guidance.

The Project

CKC acted as the central project manager and comprehensive subject matter expert: parsing the application, identifying and allocating all the required elements, and coordinating all the parties and information necessary for success.

CKC was uniquely positioned to “fill the gaps” and deliver not only efficient and savvy application management, but also the IP and operational bona fides necessary for demonstrating that Chesapeake Alternatives—an industry newcomer—was specifically capable of best-in-class cannabis manufacturing and dispensary sales.

The Solution

The Chesapeake Alternatives team won licenses in both the Processing and Dispensary domains. As the team began to build their licensed facilities, CKC’s work evolved into a broader “trusted advisor” role: counseling the client on facility selection and planning, product portfolio strategies, and the set-up and training necessary for the client’s consumer products manufacturing.
